In the winter months (May-September), we suggest bringing: jacket (such as a Patagonia or warmer outer shell), hat/ballcap, sunglasses, gloves, scarf, long-sleeve shirts or sweaters, pants/jeans/shorts, boots/warm footwear/tennis shoes, sandals/flipflops and swimsuit. For non-private trips, it is necessary to have a bag with three soft sides (it cannot be fully hard-shell). Most inter-Africa airlines have different luggage restrictions, however a soft-sided bag is necessary and standard weight restrictions are 20kg (44lbs). Please ask your SafariScapes representative what airlines you will be flying on for further information. When packing, please remember that most lodges offer laundry services.

We recommend at least 10-14 days on the ground in Africa. Our experience is that with jet lag and international travel logistics, this is the perfect amount of time, but of course, we can always accommodate a shorter or longer trip to fit your travel needs.

The Great Migration is constantly moving, however your best chance at seeing this incredible phenomenon is between June and November.

For Big 5 sightings, South Africa would be your best bet, but there are many other countries where your odds will be just as good.

If you are a birdwatcher, there are many different migration species to check off your list when visiting during the summer months (November-April), known as the ‘Green Season’.

December through March is the best time to visit, with the summer months bringing warmer weather and clear skies – ideal for exploring the outdoors and the wonderful food and wine the city has to offer.

Please consult your doctor to find out what they recommend for the countries and time of year that you are visiting.

A good place to start would be $1,000 per person per day. This amount can increase to $2,000+ per person per day depending on the style of camp and level of luxury. If you have a specific budget in mind, please let us know and we will do our best to stay within this limit.

This differs from lodge to lodge. Some only allow children aged 12 and up, while others allow younger children, and some don’t allow children at all. If you are planning to travel with kids, please let us know.

Most countries do require a visa but this varies from place to place. Please ask your SafariScapes representative for more information about whether visas are required, how much it will cost and what the application process will entail.
